Site helps people share in Ohio revelry

Progress and events of Ohio's 200th birthday party may be tracked with the help of a revamped Bicentennial Commission Web site designed to help people stay in touch.

In August, the site will become a “robust educational and marketing tool” to provide up-to-the-minute information for people interested in visiting events, said Executive Director Stephen C. George.

With a grant from SBC Foundation, a charitable giving arm of SBC Communications, the commission will change the (site) to include a full calendar of Bicentennial events and an instant link to state travel and tourism information.

“As we draw nearer to 2003, the Bicentennial's Web site will serve as a clearinghouse of useful Bicentennial information for millions of visitors,” Mr. George said.

The tourism tie-in will let visitors gather accurate information about Bicentennial events and activities, he said.

In addition, the new site will “share our state's rich and diverse history with people in our communities and around the world, and will provide important information about how to participate in the year-long celebration for Ohio's bicentennial,” said Connie Browning of SBC Ameritech Ohio.
