        Promotions & new on the job

        • Cynthia Burgin has been named assistant vice president, institutional sales, life marketing at Ohio National Financial Services. Ms. Burgin will be responsible for overseeing life insurance sales and the training of 17 institutional sales regional vice presidents and two divisional sales managers. She received her undergraduate degrees from Washington University and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University.

        • Donna Mattia has been named director of activities at Berkeley Square Retirement Community. Mrs. Mattia has been coordinating the activities for healthcare, assisted living and special care. As director she will be expanding the activities in the various programs. She earned her certification with the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals at the University of Cincinnati.

        • The following have joined Sibcy Cline Realtors as real estate sales associates: Patricia Bradford, Milford; Mark S. Malone, West Chester Township; and Linda D. Kollmann, Fort Mitchell. Suzi John joined the Montgomery office as residential real estate specialist.

        • Gregory A. DeFisher has joined The Freeman Co. as president/chief operating officer. Mr. DeFisher has 20 years of executive sales and general management experience at Unilever and most recently The Andrew Jergens Co. He is a graduate of LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y.

        • Janelle Lynch has joined Bobcat Enterprises as rental manager. Ms. Lynch was with Hertz Equipment Rental. Prior to that, she was the rental manager for Bode-Finn/Nations Rent. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati.

        • Jeffrey C. Mando, partner with Adams, Stepner, Woltermann & Dusing P.L.L.C., has been appointed by Gov. Paul E. Patton to the Kentucky Board of Education.

        • Douglas S. Tripp has joined Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP as an of counsel attorney in the commercial and real estate group. Mr. Tripp has extensive experience in large chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, primarily as counsel for the debtor-in-possession. He earned his law degree from the University of Tulsa and his bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University.

        • Natalie Barger has joined Comey & Shepherd Realtors as an associate specializing in residential sales.

        • Jennifer Wessling Weber has been named market leader at Towers Perrin, a human resources consulting firm, in the Cincinnati office. She comes to Cincinnati from the firm's Pittsburgh office.

        • Barbara J. Helm has joined Dental Care Plus as sales/service representative. Ms. Helm was recently licensed to sell insurance in Ohio and Kentucky.

        • Craig M. Ross has been named executive vice president and general manager of Paramount's Kings Island. Mr. Ross succeeds Tim V. Fisher, who has been named executive vice president and general manager of Paramount's Great America in Santa Clara, Calif. Mr. Ross has more than 20 years within the Paramount Parks organization and the theme park industry. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.


Awards & honors

               • GBBN Architects received the 2001 Growth Award from The Partnership for Greater Cincinnati for enhancing the economic vitality of the region. GBBN Architects was also honored as Architect of the Year by the American Subcontractors Association of Cincinnati.

        • Georgia Deaton, resident of Newport, has been named the Bradley L. Kaylor Blind Employee of the Year at the Cincinnati Association for the Blind. Ms. Deaton works in the paper and tape department where she does a variety of jobs.

        • Gradison McDonald Investments senior managing director and portfolio manager, David Ellis III, has received the C. Bert McDonald Award, for his lifetime achievement and lasting contribution to McDonald Investments Inc.

        • Cincinnati Arby's restaurant at 1835 Queen City Ave., has received the Operations 2001 Award from Arby's Inc. doing business as Triarc Restaurant Group of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., franchiser of the Arby's brand. The Arby's restaurant is owned and operated by Restaurant Management Inc. of Cincinnati.
