Warren considers rollback on taxes

LEBANON Warren County homeowners might get a tax break from county commissioners next year for the third straight time.
County officials are recommending rolling back the slice of the Ohio property tax that comes into county coffers, Budget Director Tiffany Ferrell-Sauer said Tuesday. The commissioners will vote on the recommendation Thursday evening.
It would save the owner of a $100,000 home about $78 on his 2002 tax bill which is paid in 2003 but cost the general fund almost $10 million.
Based on the revenue projections, it's going to be a tight budget, Commissioner Pat South said Tuesday.
For instance, county investments are expected to earn $2.3 million less this year, Ms. Ferrell-Sauer said.
On the bright side, sales tax revenues are up 7 percent so far this year, she said, and the county expects to spend millions less on construction projects next year.
Residents' taxes still might inch up by the end of the year if voters pass November levies for Mental Retardation and Development Disabilities as well as Mental Health Recovery services.
