BROOKVILLE, Ind. A helicopter with three people aboard crashed and sank in the Brookville Lake reservoir Wednesday afternoon.
Two men, including the pilot, were quickly rescued by boaters, but at 9 p.m., divers had not located the third person. He was presumed drowned.
The helicopter, a 1963 Sikorsky registered to Midwest Truxton International in Burr Ridge, Ill., went down in the lake about 40 miles northwest of Cincinnati about 4 p.m. (5 p.m. Cincinnati time).
Indiana State Police Cpl. Jim Carney at the Connersville post said divers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources were looking for the third passenger. The identities of the two men who were rescued were not available.
Delores Dobbs, 67, who works at Parkside Marine, said two fishermen who witnessed the crash came into the convenience store.
They said they saw the helicopter hit wires. It kind of twisted up and went down, she said. The pilot, who suffered back injuries, was taken to Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville. The other man was flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati in critical condition, Cpl. Carney said.
Mike Ooley, an air crash investigator for the Indiana State Police, said the helicopter was resting in about 40 feet of water.
At this point, it's not a rescue, it's a recovery, said Bill Beville, an Indiana Conservation Officer.
