Congrats


Russian language awards presented

        Evanston's Academy of World Languages Russian Language and Culture students brought home gold and silver medals from the Ohio State Olympiada of Spoken Russian. The competition has high school students competing to measure their level of competency and fluency in the language.

        The 12 students, fifth-, sixth- and seventh-graders, were the only elementary and middle-school students competing, and all won medals.

        The academy was the only school to receive such recognition.

        Gold medal winners: Jessica Bojkovo, Federico Cruz, Elizabeth Fittro, Andrea Hischak, Rothmonie Hum, Patricia Marcum, Christopher Oliver and Brandon Ozier.

        Silver medal winners: Aretha Hischak, Shana Quinn, Amardeep Singh and Diana Tisue.

       

Wright-Pat scholar
               Mark Thomas is a recipient of a Scholarship For MilitaryChildren awarded at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He will attend the University of Notre Dame, Ind.

        He is the son of Ann and Fred Thomas III of Oregonia.

       


               Xavier scholarships

        Accepting honor scholarships to attend Xavier University are:

        Kristin Gorman of Fairfield, a graduate of Badin High School. She plans to major in psychology.

        Timothy Powell of Hamilton, a graduate of Hamilton High School. He plans to major in history.

        Lyndsey Vaughn of Wilmington, a graduate of Wilmington High School. She plans to major in advertising and public relations.

        Ashley Webb of West Chester Township, a graduate of Fenwick High School. She will study psychology and criminal justice.

        Honor scholarship recipients must rank in the top 25 percent of their class and score 25 or higher on the ACT or 1130 or higher on the SAT.

       

BA degree earned
               Ross Wilson of Mount Lookout has earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and Spanish literature from the University of Notre Dame, Ind. He was also inducted into the Spanish Honor Society.

        The St. Xavier High School graduate is the son of Kristi and David Wilson of Mount Lookout. He will be working in Washington as a legislative assistant dealing with Latin American immigration issues with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
