Standard Textile buys distributor

Standard Textile Co., the growing Reading-based textile supplier, has completed its sixth acquisition in the last two years.

Privately held Standard said it acquired Kahn & Co., a Savannah, Ga., distributor of sheets, towels and other textiles to hotel chains for an undisclosed price.

“The addition of Kahn & Co. to our portfolio will propel Standard Textile into the leadership position in the hospitality marketplace,” Gary Heiman, president of Standard Textile, said.

Kahn, which will continue to be headed by David Kahn, whose family started the company in 1929, will become the focal point of Standard's hospitality products division. Kahn operates textile distribution centers in Atlanta, Memphis and Reno.

Kahn & Co. customers include Omni Hotels, Best Western International, Hilton-owned Hampton Inns and Homewood Suites as well as the New York Palace and the Cloisters in Sea Island, Ga.

Kornylak to pay fine for pollution

Kornylak Corp., a metal fabricator in Hamilton, has agreed to pay a $30,000 fine for violating state air pollution laws, Ohio EPA said Wednesday.

The state agency said Kornylak exceeded emission limits, failed to meet monitoring and record-keeping requirements and gathered data incorrectly. The violations were discovered during an August 1999 inspection by the Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services.
