Group wants priest files to be public

TOLEDO, Ohio - A support group for people abused by priests wants the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo to disclose records of all priests accused of molesting children.
The group, Chicago-based Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, says it wants the public to know about any priest with a record of abusing children, including those who have left the church.
Just because you've taken your collar off doesn't mean you're not a pedophile, said George Keller, who claims he was abused by a diocese priest 40 years ago. We need to know where they're at.
Mr. Keller, 54 and Harold Lee, 50, filed a lawsuit Monday against the diocese and a priest for sexual abuse they said happened when the pastor took them to a cottage for weekend .
Both men say the Rev. Leo Welch abused them when they were 6 to 12 years old while he was an assistant pastor of the Immaculate Conception parish in Bellevue, about 60 miles east of Toledo.
Father Welch, 75, has not denied the allegations. He told The (Toledo) Blade that he was an alcoholic at the time and did not remember much of his weekends with the boys, ages 9 to 13.
The lawsuit in Lucas County Common Pleas Court requests at least $25,000 for each man.
