Boy, 11, charged with raping girl, 5

By The Associated Press

PARMA, Ohio - An 11-year-old boy has been charged with raping a 5-year-old girl while she was at a baby sitter's house.

The boy also is expected to be charged with gross sexual imposition involving a 12-year-old girl. Detectives plan to interview a 7-year-old girl on Monday who may be a victim, said Patrolman Bill Mauer, a police department spokesman in this Cleveland suburb.

The baby sitter was not aware that the assault of the 5-year-old took place and has not been charged, Patrolman Mauer said.

The woman does not have a license to operate a day care center because the number of children she baby-sat was fewer than the number that would require her to register.

“Because she was not registered as a day care, we don't have the right to close her down,” Patrolman Mauer said. “We would have to prove that unsanitary conditions existed in the house or that she was endangering the children before we could stop her from taking in children.”

The investigation began in early June when the girl's mother told police her daughter had been sexually assaulted while she was at her baby sitter's house.

Police want to talk to other parents who have left their children at the house to determine whether more children have been sexually assaulted.

The 11-year-old boy was placed in juvenile detention Friday night.
