Obituary: Jeffrey S. Schwartz, Clermont lawyer

He was a prosecutor and public defender

The Cincinnati Enquirer

MARIEMONT — Jeffrey S. Schwartz, former assistant prosecutor and assistant public defender for Clermont County, died July 16 at Mercy Anderson Hospital from complications of cancer. The Mariemont resident was 53.

Mr. Schwartz practiced in Batavia with Jim Hunt of Pierce Township. His clients included people from all walks of life.

“His approach on behalf of them was the same,” said Judge Thomas R. Herman of Milford. “He represented everyone zealously and tirelessly. He kept prosecutors and opposing counsel on their toes and was a brilliant courtroom tactician.”

A man of great personal integrity, Mr. Schwartz also possessed an exceptional work ethic.

“He was in court just the week before he died,” said his wife, Patricia.

In the courtroom, Mr. Schwartz could transform a serious, intimidating atmosphere into a personal and comfortable one, by using his ever-present wit and humor. He was highly respected by all who knew him, said Mr. Hunt.

Born in Richmond, Va., to Bernie and Shirley Schwartz, Mr. Schwartz graduated from Xavier University and Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He worked for Clermont County from 1976 until he went into private practice in 1985. He had worked with Mr. Hunt since 1993.

In addition to Patricia, his wife of seven years, survivors include: a daughter, Abby Schwartz of Mariemont; three sons, Isadore “Izzy” Schwartz and Elijah Indino, both of Mariemont, and Benjamin Indino of Tucson; a brother, Lee Schwartz of Englewood, N.J.; and a grandson.

Services have been held. Mr. Schwartz's remains were cremated and returned to his home.

Memorials: Potter's House Relief Center, National Youth Program, P.O. Box 14852, Cincinnati 45250.Mr. Schwartz
