COLERAIN TWP. Investigators say an abandoned building was torched here early Tuesday, the fifth arson fire here in about a year.
There were no injuries, but the barn/garage at 7077 Harrison Ave. was destroyed. Fire crews responded at 12:36 a.m.
We had fire out of the eves of the roof and also fire out of the front of the building, Colerain Fire Lt. Steve Fortunski said. Not wanting to risk injury, firefighters let the building burn once they determined it was empty.
A neighbor told fire investigators he had heard a car door but saw nothing. A short time later he saw fire in the building, Fire Lt. Hollis Love said.
No one has been injured in any of the arsons, but seven buildings have been lost, Lt. Love said. The dollar loss has not been determined.
One fire last October destroyed three barns on Colerain Township property.
Most of the fires have involved empty barns or storage buildings, but an abandoned house also was burned, Lt. Love said.
Investigators have no leads and don't know if the fires are related.
They could be, Lt. Love said. We think it might be juveniles.
Colerain Township fire investigators and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office are investigating. There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to arrests. The reward money is from the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee, a fund created by a group of insurance companies.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 352-3040.
