FBI investigating Clermont Co. coroner

By David Eck, daveck@fuse.net
Enquirer contributor

BATAVIA — Federal investigators confirmed Thursday they are investigating longtime Clermont County Coroner Dr. Nico Capurro, but they refused to give details or say how long the probe will last.

James Turgal, spokesman for the Cincinnati FBI office, said there is an ongoing investigation, but he would not give any details.

Adams County sheriff's deputies helped federal investigators serve a search warrant last month at a Manchester doctor's office associated with Dr. Capurro.

“They're handling the investigation. We just assisted,” Adams County Sheriff's Detective Jeff McCarty said.

Clermont and Adams county prosecutors said their offices are not involved in the investigation.

At least one Clermont County official says Dr. Capurro might soon retire or resign.

“I'm sure all officeholders would prefer not to have a sitting officeholder involved in a criminal prosecution, if that's what happens,” Clermont County Prosecutor Don White said. “I wanted (his resignation).”

Dr. Capurro, who has been coroner since 1980, did not return phone Enquirer calls to his office Thursday.
