Engine alliance gets FedEx contract
By The Cincinnati Enquirer
Federal Express has ordered engines from the GE-P&W Engine Alliance to power 10 of the freighter versions of the Airbus A380 superjumbo jet. Value of the engine orders wasn't disclosed.
The alliance was created by GE Aircraft Engines and Pratt & Whitney to develop the GP7200 engine. The alliance has won 42 firm orders from three customers, including the freighter version orders.
FedEx also signed a 20-year fleet management agreement with the alliance, according to an announcement at the Farnborough Air Show.
FedEx will take delivery of three of the A380s in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and one in 2011.
