Venture to service military planes

        GE Aircraft Engines and Lockheed Martin Aircraft & Logistics Center have formed a joint venture in San Antonio, Texas, to handle engine maintenance and repair on military jets.

        The renamed Kelly Aviation Center at Lockheed's San Antonio logistics center will initially do overhaul and maintenance of the TF39 engines on the Air Force C-5 Galaxy and the T56 engine on P-3 Orion and C-130 Hercules, among other applications.

        In January, GEAE will add assembly, inspection and testing for 88 F110-GE-132 engines for the Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters being sold to the United Arab Emirates.

Bioscience tester going worldwide

        Newport-based medical test manufacturer Meridian Bioscience Inc. this week said it was beginning to distribute one of its top products internationally.

        The company said its ImmunoCard Stat! HsPA product, which tests for a certain stomach bacteria that is the primary cause of stomach ulcers and a recognized cause of some stomach cancers, had received approval to be used worldwide.

        Last week, the company said its test for a certain virus that could cause eye diseases would be distributed in Japan.

5 Cincinnati firms receive E awards

        Five Greater Cincinnati organizations were recognized this week by Gov. Bob Taft for excellence in exporting. They are Aeronca Inc. in Middletown, Cincinnati Machine in Oakley, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Gold Medal Products Co. in Evendale and Tedia Co. Inc. in Fairfield.

        The Excellence in Exporting, or E awards, were created in 1985 to recognize businesses that increased exports or created jobs through exports.
