Faith Matters

Program seeks faith, integrity back into business

By Karen Vance
Enquirer contributor

President Bush wants to “restore faith in the integrity of American business” he said in a speech last month, and this week he signed a bill designed to do just that.

But some religious leaders think its important to do not only that but put faith and integrity back into business, through leadership. A leadership summit being held near Chicago, Ill., at the Willow Creek Community Church is designed to do just that.

The program, designed by Willow Creek Pastor Bill Hybels, is geared toward stressing integrity, faith and morals in leadership. And for the first time in the summit's seven-year history, the conference will be available in Cincinnati as well.

The conference, available via satellite at the Vineyard Community Church in Springdale, will run next Thursday through Saturday..

“For each individual, it's their own calling for why they want to come here,” said Leigh Hallman, the event services coordinator for the Vineyard.

“If you ask 600 people, you'll probably get 600 different answers, and, hopefully, all 600 will take something away from it.”

The registered paid attendees are a mix of church and business leaders from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

Nationally, the Willow Creek Association, an organization of 7,800 churches worldwide, expects 40,000 attendees for the conference in 51 different locations in the United States and Canada. Speakers will include ministers and business leaders, including Warren Bennis, founder of the Leadership Institute, and retired Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy, the highest-ranking female military officer in recent history.

For more information, call (800) 570-9812 or call the Vineyard Community Church at 671-0422.

Growth builds new church

In 1984, St. Margaret of York was founded in Deerfield Township by 50 families and met in a nearby elementary school.

Now, the Catholic congregation has grown to 1,400 families and is finally building a sanctuary.
