LEXINGTON - Kentucky will play North Carolina, Michigan State and archrivals Indiana and Louisville during its 100th season of men's basketball.
The 29-game regular-season
schedule includes 10 games with 2002 NCAA Tournament teams, including the first game in a new two-year home-and-home series with the Spartans at Rupp Arena in December.
The teams split the series on a previous two-year contract that featured games in 1999 and 2000.
After exhibition games with traditional opponents Athletes in Action and Nike Elite, the Cats head to the Maui Invitational for the first time since the 1998 national championship season.
A potential matchup with the Hoosiers highlights the three-day tournament, which will be televised on ESPN. It could be the first of two games against the border rivals in the first month of the season as the two will square off at Louisville's Freedom Hall on Dec. 21.
The Wildcats will make their annual trip to Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena, formerly Firstar Center, to face Ohio on Jan. 4.
UK will open the Southeastern Conference schedule at Tennessee on Jan. 8. After three SEC games, the Wildcats will take on their final nonconference opponent, Notre Dame, Jan. 18 in Rupp Arena.
The schedule also features 13 nationally televised games - seven on ESPN and six on CBS. Every game will be televised either live or delayed.
UC-MU at U.S. Bank Arena
For the first time since 1996-97, Miami will play all four area rivals Wright State, Dayton, Xavier and Cincinnati. Miami will play the Bearcats on Dec. 28 at U.S. Bank Arena.
I like playing everybody in the area, MU coach Charlie Coles said. I think it's good because it generates great local interest, and that's the way it should be.
The RedHawks open at Purdue Nov. 22, then two days later travel to defending national champion Maryland to open the Terrapins' new arena.
