2 killed when car hits trees
INDEPENDENCE - Two Kentucky men were killed Saturday morning after their car left the road and struck several trees.
Todd Heizer, 23, of Independence appeared to be driving the 1999 Chevrolet pickup that ran off the road at 15600 Madison Pike, about 3 miles south of Independence. He and the passenger, Eric Davis, 24, of Morning View died at the scene.
Both men were ejected from the truck. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
There was some speculation that they were passing another vehicle, but that is still to be determined, said Sgt. Greg Sandel of the Kenton County Police Department. If they were passing, they were complete with the pass when the accident happened.
The two were traveling northbound on the two-lane road. A neighbor who saw the accident called police to the scene at 12:30 a.m.
The county's traffic accident reconstruction unit was called to the scene. The accident is under investigation.
