Asbestos delays school
The Cincinnati Enquirer
COVINGTON - Classes at Holmes Alternative School will be delayed a week - until Aug. 26 - as asbestos is removed from the building that houses the school. Classes for the school's 51 students were scheduled to begin Aug. 19.
The school has leased the basement floor of the old YMCA building at 9 E. Pike St. since February. Workers found asbestos in the ceiling during renovation of the floor above the school this summer.
On Monday, Pinnacle Environmental Consultants of Cincinnati will begin removing the rest of the asbestos. The process will take about two weeks.
We're not going to put our kids or staff at risk, said Superintendent Jack Moreland.
Students will remain in school an extra 11 minutes daily through the year to make up the lost time.
