Suspect eludes police

By Steve Kemme skemme@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

GREEN TOWNSHIP - Police were searching late Saturday for a burglary suspect accused of trying to run over a police officer with his car.

At 11:15 a.m. Saturday, a man returning a dog to a house on Cleves-Warsaw Pike in Green Township discovered an intruder in the upstairs bathroom, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said.

        This is the police account:

The men fought and rolled down the stairs. At the bottom, the intruder held a paint scraper to the other man's throat and threatened to kill him.

The intruder locked the man, who was not seriously injured, in the basement and stole the man's car.

The suspect was spotted in the car six minutes later in Addyston by a village police officer, who pursued him onto a dead-end street

The officer walked toward the car and ordered the man out. But the suspect pressed the gas pedal and tried to run over the officer.

The officer, uninjured, shot the two left tires. The suspect drove a short distance, abandoned the car and ran into a wooded area.

The sheriff's helicopter and a police canine unit failed to find the man.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s, 6 feet tall, 190 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair and tattoos on his left forearm.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office, 825-1500, or CrimeStoppers, 352-3040.
