Kenton Fiscal Court cancels meeting
INDEPENDENCE Kenton Fiscal Court's regularly scheduled meeting on Aug. 20 has been cancelled.
Several fiscal court members will be attending a statewide cities and counties conference sponsored by the Department for Local Government that night.
The next regular meeting of fiscal court will be 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Kenton County Courthouse in Independence.
'Princess' finds way to park performance
EDGEWOOD The Edgewood Ensemble will present The Princess Finds a Way at the Presidents Park Madison Shelter at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24.
The free performance features special children's seating and audience participation. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
Learning Center offering 21 fall classes
COVINGTON The Urban Learning Center is offering 21 classes for fall semester for low-income, Northern Kentucky residents. Classes begin the week of Aug. 19, and registration continues through this Friday.
Classes are taught in Covington, Dayton and Newport public schools with free tuition, textbooks, tutoring and on-site child care. The cost to students is a registration fee of $10 per course.
Students must have earned a high school diploma or GED, have a financial need and be a Northern Kentucky resident to participate.

Man fleeing sheriff killed in collision
BURKESVILLE - A 46-year-old Cumberland County man driving an all-terrain vehicle was killed Monday when his vehicle was hit by Sheriff James G. Pruitt's cruiser as Sheriff Pruitt pursued him on suspicion of drunken driving, police said.
Ricky M. Polston of Bakerton was northbound in the southbound lane of Ky. 61, 9
miles north of Burkesville and turned right, into Sheriff Pruitt's path, Kentucky State Police said. Mr. Polston was hit and ejected from the ATV, police said. State police did not know the rate of speed Monday night.
