DRY RIDGE Kentucky State Police are looking for a truck driver suspected of trying to abduct a young woman stranded by the side of the road in Grant County.
The woman's vehicle had a flat tire at 10 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 between Dry Ridge and Corinth.
She pulled over to the shoulder and was attempting to change the tire when a tractor-trailer stopped and the driver offered to help, police said.
Trooper David Jude said the truck driver lured the woman to his cab by saying he had a tool that would help them change the tire. The man grabbed the woman by the arm and neck and tried to force her into the truck. Trooper Jude said the woman was able to get away only after she hit the man several times in the head with a ratchet wrench.
The woman, in good faith, walked to his truck thinking he was a good Samaritan, Trooper Jude said. He told her the correct tool to change her tire was in his cab. She couldn't get the tire changed herself.
Trooper Jude would not release the woman's name, but said she was in her early 20s and lives in Grant County.
The man drove off as the woman ran to her car waving for help from passing motorists. Police said several other truck drivers pulled to the side of the road to offer assistance. One of those drivers gave the woman a mobile phone, which she used to call police.
The truck driver wanted for questioning is described as a short black man in his 30s, 150 pounds, with short hair and a goatee. He was wearing a blue print shirt, blue shorts and several gold chains. The woman told police the man's most notable feature was his large teeth that needed cleaning.
He was driving a tractor-trailer with a red cab and a white trailer. The woman told police that she did not notice any markings on the truck.
Hospitals throughout the Tristate have been told to watch for the man.
Police have also alerted weigh stations along I-75.
