Labor Day travel looks thinner
AAA predicts more of us will stay close to home

More Americans plan to stick closer to home this Labor Day weekend.
Overall, travel will be down -- about 1 percent less than last year, said Greg Beheler, an American Automobile Association spokesman. With school already started in many places and this being the last travel holiday of the summer, some people will take it off to visit theme parks or for one last hurrah at the beach.
Roughly 32.7 million travelers plan to take a trip 50 miles or more from home during the holiday, down slightly from the 33 million estimated to have traveled last year, according to the AAA.
Susan Guthrie of Amberley Village and her 2-year-old daughter, Jessica, are among those Tristaters planning to stick around the area this weekend. And they'll have plenty to do.
We'll definitely be at Riverfest for the fireworks, Mrs. Guthrie said. My husband (Joe) will be playing golf this weekend, and I'm having some friends over. I'm looking forward to a long, relaxing weekend.
This year's Riverfest bash will run from noon to 11 p.m. Sunday, at Sawyer Point downtown and along Riverboat Row in Newport and Covington.
