Local airports net federal grants
Cincinnati officials Friday said the city would be receiving nearly $800,000 in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration to upgrade security and study safety issues at both Lunken and Blue Ash airports.
Lunken Airport is receiving $459,000 to update the 1998 Lunken Master Plan, which includes a runway safety area study. The airport also will use the money to install a new security fence and access gates, and improve access to the airfield by the Cincinnati Fire Department.
The runways at both airports will also be renovated and repainted.
The city owns and operates both airports, which generate their own revenue and cost the city no tax dollars.
