Visitor's guide to Riverfest




        What: Third Federal Riverfest and the 26th annual Toyota/WEBN Fireworks

        When: Riverfest starts noon today; the 31-minute, 30-second fireworks show launches at 9:05 p.m.

        Where: Cincinnati, Covington and Newport riverbanks; any hillside with a view.

        Admission: Free

Street closings

        Cincinnati
        All streets south of Seventh between Central Avenue and southbound Eggleston Avenue close at 5 p.m. Inbound Columbia Parkway closes at Torrence Parkway at 5 p.m., as does Mount Adams and the ramp from Fort Washington Way to I-471 south. I-71 south closes at the Taft exit at 8:30 p.m.

        Covington
        All streets north of Fourth Street close at 5 p.m.

        Newport
        Riverboat Row closes at 8 a.m. Exit ramps from I-471 to Ky. 8 close at 7:30 p.m. Monmouth Street between Fourth and 11th streets closes at 7:30 p.m.

Bridges

        The L&N Bridge is closed throughout the event. The Suspension Bridge closes at 5 p.m. Taylor-Southgate northbound lane and pedestrian walkway close at noon; southbound closes at 5 p.m. The Clay Wade Bailey southbound lane closes at 8 p.m.; pedestrian walkways close at 5 p.m. The Daniel Carter Beard southbound lanes close at 8 p.m. The Fourth Street Bridge between Newport and Covington closes at 9 p.m.

Buses

        Metro will provide shuttle service starting at 2 p.m. from Beechmont Mall, Raymond Walters College, Western Hills Plaza and General Electric. Fare is $3 for all ages, and exact change is required.

Some rules

        No alcohol on either side of the river. Coolers allowed on the Cincinnati side only, but they will be inspected. No glass, metal or aluminum containers. No umbrellas, cooking devices or pets.

Disabled access

        The parking lot at Bicentennial Commons and the East Garage next to U.S. Bank Arena are reserved for disabled parking on a first-come basis. Viewing points are set up at Sawyer Point and next to Paddlewheel Park overlooking the Public Landing.

Lost children

        Cincinnati police will be stationed at two lost children booths - one in Yeatman's Cove and one in Sawyer Point near the main entrance.
