Wheelchair maker expanded recall
The Associated Press
CLEVELAND - The world's largest maker of wheelchairs didn't widely publicize its recall of electric wheelchairs, which was expanded amid lawsuits claiming unsafe wiring and fire hazards.
The company did more than the federal government required to notify customers of the recall, which is nearly complete, Invacare Inc.'s chief executive said on Sunday.
Elyria-based Invacare's recall includes 215,000 wheelchairs lacking a fuse that could help prevent fires in the charging system.
