Xavier freshman makes dean's list

        Clara Kuhlman, a freshman double majoring in English and secondary education, was named to the spring semester dean's list, with a 4.0 grade point average, at Xavier University.

        The Mount Notre Dame High School graduate is the daughter of Toni and Jeff Kuhlman of Evendale.

        Honor's graduate: Mark Huntress has graduated cum laude with honors, earning a bachelor of science degree in the College of Biological Sciences at Ohio State University.

        The son of Linda and Gordon Huntress of Mount Lookout plans to teach in the fall.

        Gets scholarship: Lauren Kuley, a graduate of Oak Hills High School, was awarded a National Honor Society Scholarship sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. She was one of 200 recipients out of over 9,600 applicants.

        Each high school's NHS chapter nominates two seniors based on leadership, scholastic achievement, character and service.

        Members inducted: The following Miami University Middletown students were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges:

        Lisa Hisey, James Hoerst and Linda Nori of Middletown; Jennifer Damron and Nancy Penny of Franklin; Michele Martin and Leighann Pennington of Trenton; Rebecca Buttram of Mason; Hope Harpst of Miamisburg; Gwendolyn Motley of Carlisle; and Kimberly Whitton of West Chester Township.

        Two win awards: Students attending Cincinnati State Technical and Community College have earned the following awards:

        Latrice Davis, of Roselawn, won a $2,000 scholarship from the Academy of Medicine Alliance of Cincinnati's Health Education and Services Fund. She was chosen on the basis of her academic record, financial need and commitment to her field.

        Melinda Halm, of Westwood, placed second in a statewide essay contest sponsored by the Ohio Chapter of the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing.

        She wrote of the motivators that would encourage people to consider registered nursing as a career.
