Fisherman's body found in river
WHITEWATER TWP. - Firefighters Monday found the body of a Cleves man who disappeared in the Great Miami River a day earlier while fishing.
Capt. Jenni Lattire of the Whitewater Township Fire Department said a firefighter on a personal watercraft spotted the body of David Medecke, 47, among some debris about 250 yards from where he was last seen about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Hamilton County sheriff's officials said the victim was found by firefighters about 7:20 a.m. Monday.
Capt. Lattire said Mr. Medecke was not in a boat when he apparently disappeared in the river. Though she said fishermen typically wade in the water while fishing, she was not sure how Mr. Medecke got into trouble.
Miami Township firefighters assisted with the recovery.
