Cincinnati police have charged a North Fairmount man and are seeking a 15-year-old boy in connection with an apparent shootout that left a woman dead and four others wounded Sunday night.
Eddie Wilcox, 39, of the 1700 block of Denham Street, was charged with felonious assault in the shooting of Andre Summers, 15, of Fairmount. Police said an unknown assailant also wounded Mr. Wilcox during the shootings, which occurred just after 10 p.m. in the 1700 block of Denham Street in North Fairmount.
Mr. Wilcox and Andre were in fair condition Monday evening at University Hospital.
Police found five people with gunshot wounds upon arriving at the scene. One victim, Rita Walter, 38, of Winton Terrace, was pronounced dead. She was the city's 44th homicide victim of 2002.
Police are looking for a teen-age suspect in Ms. Walter's death. He was described as black, 15 years old, 5-feet-2 and with gold caps on his teeth. The suspect, whose hair was braided and pulled into a ponytail, was wearing a red or maroon shirt, blue jean shorts and white gym shoes.
The other two victims are:
Mr. Wilcox's wife, Verlene Wilcox, 46, of Fairmount, in fair condition Sunday at University Hospital.
Mr. Wilcox's nephew, Antonio Wilcox, 17, of Fairmount, who was released from University Hospital.
The Rev. Damon Lynch III and Juleana Frierson of the Cincinnati Black United Front showed up as police investigated to talk to them about what had happened.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Section at 352-3542 or Crime Stoppers at 352-3040. Callers can remain anonymous and may receive compensation for their information.
