Some Good News
Hazelwood improver honored
Blanche Sisco can talk about when the price of the average home in Hazelwood was $27,000. That was 20 years ago.
But Mrs. Sisco would rather talk about the $137,000 average price now in this predominantly African-American community.
And she will mention her service on the Blue Ash Revitalization Commission, which has helped to bring Hazelwood from dirt roads and septic tanks to an aggressive community rapidly becoming integrated..
For her civic leadership and her innate desire to help others, the Blue Ash/ Montgomery and Symmes Township Rotary Club has chosen her Blue Ash Citizen of the Year 2002.
I am surprised, flattered and humbled to receive this honor, she said. I still serve on a number of boards because I constantly try to help people.
Mrs. Sisco will receive the award at a noon ceremony on Tuesday at the Blue Ash/Montgomery Club meeting, at the Clarion Hotel, 5901 PfeifferRoad, Blue Ash.
She will be the first black citizen to receive this award, said James R. Cobb, a Rotary Club member.
She is highly deserving and respected by the city of Blue Ash administration as well as officers of the Rotary Club. Mr. Cobb said.
Mrs. Sisco has worked as a tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service and as a real estate appraiser.
She has served on the Planning Commission for the Sycamore School District for 18 years. She is a member of the Hazelwood Improvement Corp. and served on the committee that created the sister city agreement between Blue Ash and Ilmenau, Germany.
The Rotary Club honored Ronald McSwain, chairman of McSwain Carpets, as the Entrepreneur of the Year 2002 Tuesday at the Clarion Hotel.
Mr. McSwain has been a major supporter of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and a speaker at the Rotary's Camp Enterprise program for 80 high school juniors each year.
Mr. McSwain is the chairman of the Business Development Steering Committee of the Blue Ash Chamber of Commerce and serves on its board.
At noon Sept 24, Reita Barnaclo will be honored as the Montgomery Citizen of the Year 2002. She was recommended by the city manager of Montgomery.
She is a member of the Montgomery Women's Club, Beautification and Tree Commission, Historical Preservation Commission and the Downtown Holiday Decorating Committee.
The Olivet Baptist Church Pastor's Aide Club will observe its 10th anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, 6838 Montgomery Road, Silverton.
The Rev. Allen Middleton, pastor of Galilee Baptist Church, Fairmount, will be the guest speaker.
