Pilot killed in plane crash
Aircraft tips over on landing
By The Associated Press
MAYSVILLE - A plane veered off the runway Friday at a rural airport, killing one and injuring another, authorities said.
The aircraft crashed about 2 p.m. at the end of the runway at Fleming-Mason Airport, said Kentucky State Police Lt. Keith Craycraft.
The pilot, Morris Wright, 48, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. The passenger, Ralph Royse, suffered minor injuries.
The plane was a two-seat, experimental aircraft, according to airport manager Mitchell Coleman. The hand-built aircraft was privately owned and operated, Mr. Coleman said. He could not identify the owner.
Mr. Coleman said after the aircraft landed, it veered off the runway and appeared to tip over. No one had radioed to report any problems with the single-engine aircraft on Friday, he said.
The airport is southeast of Maysville on the Mason-Fleming county line.
