OXFORD — Miami University might have lost more than a football game Saturday. Middle linebacker Terrell Jones, who sets up the RedHawks' defense, could be out indefinitely because of a right ankle injury he suffered during the second of Miami's 29-24 loss to Iowa Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium.

After the game, Jones was using crutches. His right shoe was removed, and he also complained about a sore back.

Jones' status for next Saturday's game against LSU in Baton Rouge, La., is unknown.

“If it's not one thing, it's another,” said Jones, who has endured right shoulder and sports hernia surgeries during the past two offseasons.

Jones, who earned All-Mid-American Conference honors last season, left the game after totaling seven tackles.

BIG GUYS RUN SHOW: The average height and weight of Iowa's starting offensive linemen is 6 feet 6 and 296 pounds.

It showed, as Miami was unable to stop the Hawkeyes from rushing for a team total of 188 yards.

“Running behind those guys today, I didn't have to make anybody miss,” said Iowa running back Fred Russell, who had 32 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown.

“I felt like every time I touched the ball I was guaranteed 5 yards without making any moves.”

Miami's biggest defensive lineman among starters was Kurt Mester (6-4, 268).

RUN ABANDONS RUN: The RedHawks' rushing total of 14 yards is the lowest since Kent State last season (minus-1 yards).

After rushing for 101 yards and a TD last week against North Carolina, Cal Murray was held to 18 yards rushing on six carries.

“It was frustrating, not getting a run established,” Murray said.

“But then again, the run game is just a portion of the offense. When we decided to go just with passing, I was fine with that.

“We just wanted to help put points on the board, whether it's by running or blocking.”

RED-ZONE DEFENSE: Miami surrendered four scores to Iowa in five trips inside the RedHawks' 20-yard line.
