Tristate A.M. Report

High speed, alcohol contributed to crash

Cincinnati Police said excessive speed and alcohol contributed to a two-vehicle accident early Saturday that left one man hospitalized in critical condition.

John Cochran, 21, of Cincinnati was in critical condition Saturday evening at University Hospital. He was a passenger in a Honda Accord, driven by Cory A. Lambert, 20, that crashed at 1:56 a.m. Saturday at 5310 Glenway Ave., Price Hill.

Police reported Mr. Lambert, of Price Hill, was speeding when he clipped the rear of a vehicle he was attempting to pass. The Accord slid off the roadway and hit a telephone poll.

Mr. Lambert was taken to University Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. No one else was injured.

Corpse identified as missing Cincinnatian

VERSAILLES, Ind. — A decomposing body discovered Aug. 18 on the Indiana bank of the Ohio River near the Markland Dam has been identified as Roland Fisher, 67, of Cincinnati.

Mr. Fisher had been missing since June 2, according to Indiana State Police. His body was found in the afternoon near Turtle Creek Harbor 1 miles above the dam.

Police said X-rays and medical records made the positive identification possible.

Agencies involved in the investigation include the Indiana State Police, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Switzerland County Sheriff's Department and the Hamilton County coroner.

Sharpshooters on lookout for coyotes

SPRINGDALE — Police sharpshooters were expected to return overnight Saturday looking for a pack of coyotes that ate a poodle last week.

Springdale Police said at least two police officers wearing camouflage and toting shotguns and rifles had no luck in tracking the pack overnight Friday, the first day of the hunt.

A pack of as many as five coyotes climbed a back yard fence Thursday at Gary and Kathy Pender's home in the Oxford Hills subdivision and killed their 7-year-old pet, Casey. City officials will meet Monday to discuss a strategy to protect residents.

Meanwhile, neighbors are being warned to keep a close eye on pets and small children. Coyotes began appearing in the area about 10 years ago.

Nursing home workers arrested for stealing

Two Cincinnati employees of Harrison House Inc., a nursing home in Westwood, have been arrested in connection with stealing from an elderly resident.

Tracey Sorrells, 33, of Price Hill and Sheila R. Ford, 45, of Golf Manor were arrested Friday. Each was charged with one count of theft.

Ms. Ford and Ms. Sorrells allegedly stole $3,000 and some unspecified personal property from a disabled resident of the nursing home at 9 a.m. Sept. 6, according to a police report.

The owners and administrator of the facility couldn't be reached for comment Saturday evening.

Car sought in Bond Hill drive-by shooting

Cincinnati Police are looking for a maroon Chevrolet Monte Carlo involved in a drive-by shooting early Saturday in Bond Hill.

No one was injured when someone from inside the car fired 20 shots into a crowd of people at a Shell gas station at the corner of Reading Road and Seymour Avenue near Swifton Commons. Police were able to get the license plate number on the car, but it came back stolen.

There was reportedly a short car chase also, but police would not release any more details.
