He's a good dancer, but no Big Bird

By Jim Knippenberg, jknippenberg@enquirer.com
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Looks as if some feathers will be flying today in Cincinnati City Council Chambers. All in the name of Elmo.

Council, which isn't known for unanimous votes, is expected to agree on a resolution naming Chicken Dance Elmo official ambassador for Cincinnati's Oktoberfest this weekend.

“He'll appear before council, on the podium and will actually sing and do the dance,” says Buz Buse, public relations manager for the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce.

Chicken Dance Elmo is a $19.95 plush toy from Sesame Street and Fisher-Price that flaps its arms and sings the chicken dance song.

It was named one of the top new toys at the International Toy Fair in New York City.

The resolution will read, in part: “Chicken Dance Elmo serves as a fitting ambassador for Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati and our great city, exemplifying the spirit of Gemuetlichkeit (good times), bringing smiles to people of all walks of life and bringing people together to do the Chicken Dance on historic Fountain Square.”
