Retirees offer expertise
We teach new dogs old tricks, says W.P. Doc Holiday, secretary for Gold Pond Resources Inc., an unusual Cincinnati consulting practice composed entirely of retirees.
Each of the retirees charges a negotiable fee for his services, but the aim is more about staying active and giving something back to the community, said Ken Wilkinson, a retired chemical industry executive who started Gold Pond nine years ago.
Our biggest problem is we solve a lot of problems before we've agreed on a contract, he said.
The group, most of whom are in their 70s, estimates it has more than 700 years of accumulated experience in manufacturing and engineering; systems analysis and computers; sales and marketing; chemistry; and packaging.
During the last year, Gold Pond has doubled its active roster to more than 20 members and has tackled a wider variety of technical and management projects.
The group holds its next monthly meeting 9 a.m. Friday at PMC Specialties Inc., 501 Murray Road, St. Bernard.
