Overturned tanker jams AA Highway

WILDER - It took emergency crews the entire morning Friday to upright an overturned tanker on an Interstate 275 ramp leading to the AA Highway in Campbell County.

None of the 57,000 gallons of motor oil the truck was hauling leaked, but emergency crews had to drain the tanker before the vehicle could be up righted.

The wreck occurred at 1:45 a.m. Friday when the driver hit a guardrail on the ramp from I-275 to the AA Highway. The driver overcorrected, according to police, causing the truck to roll. Police said excessive speed probably contributed to the wreck.

The driver, Frederick G. Stanford, broke his leg at the hip joint and was treated and released from University Hospital.

The wrecked was cleared shortly before noon, but not before it caused major traffic delays during morning rush-hour traffic. I-275 remained open during the cleanup, but commuter traffic trying to get onto the AA Highway was rerouted.
