H&G spotlights local garden: It took 15 months, but Brenda Demetriou's Withamsville garden made it into print in the October issue of Better Homes and Garden. The five-page spread was shot by a New York crew in summer 2001, and the gardener/birdhouse creator had just about given up on being included in the magazine. Her garden, part of the Conservancy Open Garden Day every year, was chosen by a scouting group from the magazine. Included in the article are plansfor her gardens and birdhouses.

TheWhirlpool Top-Mount refrigerators that usually sell for $899.99 will be auctioned on eBay (www.ebay.com/bestbuyappliances) through Oct. 12 with bidding starting at $250. Free posters of the painted refrigerators are available at Best Buy. The sale of Mr. Andretti's refrigerator will benefit the Missionary Vehicle Association; Mr. Hoffman will help Cancer Treatment Research, and Mr. Idol will help Muscular Dystrophy.
Walk on: The Wear-Dated tag on carpet is right on track, literally. The Pensacola, Fla., company has a team of six employees who spend eight hours a day, five days a week, taking a 15- to 18-mile journey around a track of carpet to test durability. The goal is to accumulate 20,000 foot traffics for each piece of test carpet. It takes about a week's worth of team walking to meet the goal.
