Democrats give $65,000 to Burnside campaign
The Ohio Democratic Party bolstered the campaign treasury of Supreme Court candidate Janet Burnside by $65,000 in September, monthly financial reports filed with Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell's office on Thursday showed.
The party had already given $185,000 to Tim Black, the Hamilton County Municipal judge competing with Republican Lt. Gov. Maureen O'Connor, so it has turned its attention to Ms. Burnside, a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge challenging Republican Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton.
Ms. Burnside reported raising $309,541 in September.
Three independent polls published last month found the Burnside-Stratton race to be close, with a large percentage of undecided voters. Poll results for Mr. Black and Ms. O'Connor varied. They are competing for the seat held by Republican Justice Andy Douglas, who is retiring.
From the beginning, our priority has been both of those seats. The seat Tim Black is running for is an open seat. But the way the polls are going, we've been very encouraged by the Burnside race, party spokeswoman Lauren Worley said.
