Man pleads guilty to pornography charges

HAMILTON - A Monroe man pleaded guilty Monday to 10 child pornography-related charges as a result of an out-of-state undercover investigation involving a state of Wyoming police officer posing as a teenage girl on the Internet.

Butler County Prosecutor Robin Piper said Michael Schumacher, 25, of the 200 block of Scott Alan Drive, pleaded guilty to two second-degree felony counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and eight fifth-degree felony counts.

The Wyoming investigation revealed that Mr. Schumacher had transferred images of children to the undercover officer via the Internet. A search of Mr. Schumacher's home computer by Monroe police revealed multiple images of children stored on his computer.

“Our local law enforcement's goal is to make these criminals realize that Butler County is not a place to be if they harbor an interest in pornography involving children,” Mr. Piper said in a released statement.

The plea was before Common Pleas Judge Keith Speath. Mr. Schumacher faces up to 24 years in prison, fines up to $50,000 and the possibility of being labeled a sexual predator. He will be sentenced Nov. 22.
