Arkansas awaits UK in SEC showdown

The Associated Press

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas linebacker Caleb Miller has a simple solution for the next seven weeks.

“The rest of the games are ours. We can win them if we do what we need to do,” Miller said. “We said that in the beginning, but from here on out, truly, we shouldn't lose any more games. We've learned from our mistakes.”

After losses to Alabama and Tennessee, the Razorbacks (3-2, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) rebounded with a 38-17 victory at Auburn last week and they start that seven-game stretch against Kentucky (4-2, 0-2) on Saturday.

“They're all tough, but I am glad that Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn - three tough, tough duty games - are over,” Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said. “But we should be two out of three. That's what is sad. We should have beat Tennessee. We outplayed them in a lot of parts of the game.”

The Razorbacks' defense will face something Saturday that it has never seen - a mobile 275-pound quarterback in Kentucky junior Jared Lorenzen.

“If you run against a guy who's 300 pounds and just standing there, he's going to go down, I promise,” Miller said. “The difference is, is if he's moving around and running, it'll be harder to take him. You'll take him down and it might take a while to take him down, and he might be able to throw the ball away.”

Lorenzen has completed 106 of 175 passes for 1,268 yards, 15 touchdowns and just three interceptions this season. But he has been sacked 17 times, including four times last week in a 16-12 loss to South Carolina.

Senior tailback Artose Pinner gives the Wildcats balance, ranking second in the SEC with 119 yards per game. UK's offense leads the conference with 36 points per game, but it failed to score any points in the second half of a 16-12 loss to South Carolina last week.

Pinner also leads the team with 28 receptions, as Lorenzen has taken some criticism for not getting the ball down the field enough to his receivers. Receiver Derek Abney has 19 catches for 262 yards, and he returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns against Florida, while Aaron Boone has 303 receiving yards on 17 receptions.
