Woman settles with bank, still suing city
A mentally challenged Cincinnati woman Tuesday settled the lawsuit she had filed against U.S. Bank and the bank security officers who she claims wrongly accused her of passing a bad check.
Evelyn Armstrong, 39, continues to seek $40 million in damages from the city of Cincinnati and two police officers, accusing them of abusing her and improperly charging her with a crime.
Ms. Armstrong's attorney, Kenneth Lawson, dismissed the bank and the security officers from the lawsuit in a motion filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court. Terms of the settlement were confidential.
Bus driver cited after hitting another bus
MASON A school bus driver was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance after rear-ending another bus Monday.
Cynthia Renn, 45, of West Chester is scheduled to appear in Mason Municipal Court next month, said Trooper Paul Lezotte of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Nine Mason Middle School students and the two bus drivers suffered minor injuries in the 2:30 p.m. crash on Tylersville Road. Ms. Renn was traveling behind a second Mason school bus, which had stopped for a car turning left onto Fireside Drive.
More than 70 students were aboard the two buses, according to the highway patrol.
Ten of the 11 injured were treated and released. About half of the students returned to school today, said Shelly Benesh Hausman, district spokeswoman.
Man shot, killed in West End store lot
Police said they caught Donte Booker, 19, selling marijuana Monday at the Jet-In Market in the West End. He went to jail after officers said they saw him throw two bags of marijuana under a food shelf.
Hours later, Mr. Booker was shot dead in the parking lot of the same store, the 50th homicide victim in Cincinnati this year.
Within about 18 hours of the shooting, police filed aggravated murder and aggravated robbery charges against Kenknobie Williams, 19, of Over-the-Rhine.
Mr. Williams was already wanted by police in connection with another shooting in July. In June, he was sentenced to jail for 40 days for running from police; officers had said they saw him selling drugs.
Police described Mr. Williams as 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. They said he frequents the West End and Over-the-Rhine. Investigators ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers at 352-3040.
2 die in accidents with tractor-trailers
SEAMAN Two people, one each in Adams and Clinton counties, were killed Tuesday when their vehicles were involved in wrecks with tractor-trailers.
A woman was killed on Ohio 32 when the car she was driving pulled out into the path of a tractor-trailer.
The crash occurred at 3 p.m. at the intersection of Ohio 32 and Ohio 247 in Adams County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The car pulled out from Ohio 247 and was struck by the semi, which was westbound on Ohio 32.
The driver of the car was killed and a juvenile passenger was injured, the highway patrol said. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The identity of the victim was being withheld late Tuesday pending notification of relatives.
In Clinton County, a 28-year-old Alliance man, Brian Sullivan, was killed when his vehicle went left of center and collided with a tractor-trailer on Ohio 73.
The crash occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Ohio 73, just west of Interstate 71 in Clinton County.
The driver of the semi, Robert Chappel, 48, of Lewisburg, suffered minor injuries.
Board of Education member steps down
MASON Russ Carter resigned Tuesday from the Mason Board of Education, citing personal and career reasons.
Mr. Carter was not at Tuesday night's meeting when the board accepted his resignation.
I can honestly say that every decision he made was in the best interest of the students, board vice president Eric Kantor said.
Mr. Carter has been on the board since 1992, and served as board president from 1996-98.

Former Dayton Police Chief Lowe Sr. dies
DAYTON, Ohio Former Police Chief Ronald Lowe Sr., 57, who rose through the ranks to lead the police force before retiring in 2000, has died.
Mr. Lowe died Monday at Hospice of Dayton. Cause of death was not disclosed.
