Reading, reception: Celebrating an art opening of his collages at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the 10th anniversary of the literary journal Incliner, poet Dean Young will read from his work at 11 a.m. today in the Cincinnati Art Museum's lecture hall. A reception follows. His collages will be on display at the academy through Nov. 1. Free. 562-8777.

Art exhibit: The Mayumi Oda Festival, presented by the Mary Baskett Gallery, will present Festival of Large Works at the Monastery in Mount Adams. Vacant for 25 years, the monastery will be filled with the internationally recognized artist's colorful and sometimes humorous portraits of mythological Buddhist deities generally seen as men. All aboard! The 35th Annual Model Railroad Show arrives a month early this year in a new location. All scales of electric trains will be operating - and for sale - at Lakota West High School, 8940 Union Centre Blvd., West Chester Township, just off the I-75 Union Centre Boulevard interchange (exit 19). 10-a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. $5; no charge for Scouts in uniform and children under 12 accompanied by an adult. 662-7245.

Passport problem: Tabea Zimmermann, a renowned German violist, will not appear with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra this weekend. The American Consulate in Berlin has lost her passport, which was in its possession while she was being granted a visa, says Rosemary Weathers, CSO public relations director. Music director Paavo Jarvi will conduct Mozart's Symphony No. 28 in C major, in place of the Bartok Viola Concerto. Concerts are at 11 a.m. Friday; 8 p.m. Saturday in Music Hall. 381-3300.

Poet honored: Cincinnati poet Pauletta Hansel has been named 2002 Poet of the Year by the Ohio Poetry Day Association. Her poetry collection Divining was released this year by WovenWord Press.

Ms. Hansel will be honored Saturday in conjunction with the 65th annual Ohio Poetry Day Celebration in Troy, Ohio. For reservations and information call (937) 324-2486.

She'll read from her work at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 as Riverbank Poetry Project's poet-in-residence at Fitton Center for the Arts, Hamilton.
