Thomas Stroup Jenike, an internist who practiced in Pleasant Ridge for 35 years, died Oct. 4 in Oldsmar, Fla., where he had lived since 1986. Dr. Jenike was 85.
In addition to his practice, he served as medical director for GE Evendale's nuclear division and as associate team doctor for the University of Cincinnati basketball team in the '50s, when Oscar Robertson played, and in the '60s, when Ed Jucker coached the team to a national championship.
Dr. Jenike also taught at UC's College of Medicine and was a member of the State of Ohio Medical Association for more than 50 years.
He graduated from Walnut Hills High School and Ohio State University before entering Hahnemann University Medical School in Philadelphia.
Soon after the United States entered World War II in 1941, Dr. Jenike enlisted in the Navy and served as a flight surgeon in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for 18 months.
A former member of the Coldstream Country Club, Dr. Jenike played golf until a few years ago. He was also a 32nd-degree Mason, a past president of the Cincinnati-Medi Club and a former deacon at Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by Elizabeth L. Jenike, his wife of 51 years.
Survivors include his second wife, Helen G. Jenike of Oldsmar; two daughters, Jeanne Jenike and Linda Henderson, both of Cincinnati; two sons, David Jenike of Harrison and Dale Jenike of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth Gocker of Rochester, N.Y.; three stepchildren and two grandchildren.
Services have been held.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
