`Seabiscuit' scraps filming in Cincinnati

The horse-racing movie Seabiscuit will not be coming to Cincinnati, Kristen Erwin, director of the Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Film Commission, confirmed Tuesday.

Budget cuts forced the production to scrap plans to film in Over-the-Rhine and other spots, she said. Cincinnati area residents who tried out this summer will be among the 3,000 extras slated to be used; the production also hired crew members and suppliers from here.

The company shot some footage in the Lexington area over the weekend and will return for more Kentucky shooting beginning Nov. 7, Ms. Erwin said.

Adapted by writer-director Gary Ross (Pleasantville) from Laura Hillenbrand's best-seller, the movie stars Tobey Maguire, Jeff Bridges and Chris Cooper in the tale of a Depression-era race horse that became a national obsession. It is scheduled to be released July 25.
