It's not enough for Paul and Pam Sturkey to own two incredibly successful restaurants - Sturkey's in Wyoming and Encore CafÈ in West Chester. Oh no, they want you to eat their food at home, too.
After customers pestered them for four years, pretty much since they opened Sturkey's, the chef and pastry chef team finally have bottled for sale their famous Creamy Balsamic Vinaigrette House Dressing. Once he knew what he wanted, Mr. Sturkey says it wasn't difficult creating the vinaigrette for the restaurant: A sweet-tart dressing that clings well to greens.
But converting it from a 5-gallon recipe to a 5,000-bottle recipe was more tricky. The Sturkeys tasted 18 versions over three months before settling on this bottled version.
Sturkey's House Dressing retails for about $4.95 per 12 ounces, and is available at the couple's restaurants, Jungle Jim's Market in Fairfield, the Party Source in Bellevue, Dorothy Lane Market in Springboro and Dayton and Hyde Park Gourmet Food & Wine. (For more retail locations: www.sturkeys.com.)
Meanwhile, Mr. Sturkey is working on a dry spice blend and a garlic-peppercorn-ranch dressing to go into a bottle, and his wife is busy perfecting a chocolate-caramel dessert sauce to sell.
That will be more Sturkey's stuff to eat at home.
