Lecavalier hat trick zaps Penguins

TAMPA, Fla. - Vincent Lecavalier made sure the Tampa Bay Lightning stayed perfect at home.

Lecavalier had three goals as the Southeast Division-leading Lightning ended a three-game losing streak by beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 Friday night.

"This is my fifth year, and things are changing and things are going good," Lecavalier said. "We've got a lot of pride this year. Even though it's a long season, but we're going the right way."

Lecavalier gave the Lightning a 2-1 lead at 4:25 of the third period when he put a backhander from in close past Johan Hedberg. He completed his first career hat trick with an empty goal with 1:12 left.

"It's a plus for us he got a hat trick," said right wing Martin St. Louis, who extended his point streak to six games with an assist.

Fredrik Modin had the other goal for Tampa Bay, 5-0 at home and off to a franchise-best start of 8-4-2 overall.

Pens center Mario Lemieux's 11-game point streak was snapped.

"We had some good chances," Lemieux said. "It was a pretty good game until the third period when they got a couple of goals."

DALLAS - Ed Belfour played well in his first game against his former teammates since signing with Toronto, but goals by Pierre Turgeon and Jason Arnott gave Dallas the victory.

Belfour's former Stars backup, Marty Turco, stopped 22 shots.

Islanders 4, Oilers 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Dave Scatchard scored twice, and Chris Osgood made 31 saves as New York snapped a six-game losing streak. Adrian Aucoin and Shawn Bates also scored for the Isles.

DENVER - Niclas Havelid scored 20 seconds into OT. Colorado is winless at home. (0-4-3).

KINGS: Defenseman Aaron Miller was activated and left wing Mikko Eloranta was placed on the injured list with a sprained left knee. Miller has not been on the active roster since hernia surgery Sept.13.

AHL MIGHTY DUCKS: Cincinnati signed center Brendan Yarema to a pro tryout contract. Yarema, 26, had three goals and 15 penalty minutes in four games with ECHL Charlotte. A seven-year pro, the 6-foot, 195-pounder spent last season with AHL Houston, recording 18 goals and 13 assists with 150 penalty minutes in 77 games.

CCHA MIAMI WINS: The No.14-ranked Miami RedHawks, behind goalie David Burleigh's season-high 36 saves and center Derek Edwardson's two goals, defeated Notre Dame 3-1 in the first of a two-game series in South Bend, Ind.
