Campbellsville coach retires

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville coach Ron Finley suddenly retired late Thursday after the school reported a player had received "unauthorized financial assistance outside of institutional control."
The school, which competes at the NAIA level, did not identify the player in a one-page statement released about 10:40 p.m. EST.
The statement said the school has taken "corrective action" and has reported its findings to the school's administration, the Mid-South Conference and the NAIA.
The statement said the school will be "actively seeking a new coach to be named in the near future."
Finley is the only coach in Campbellsville history. The Tigers' first season was 1988.
The Tigers have posted winning records and been nationally ranked in five of the past six years. Campbellsville reached the NAIA playoffs and finished 10-3 last season.
The Tigers are 5-4 this year after a 56-11 win over Pikeville last week. They play at Union, Ky. in their regular-season finale this Saturday.
A call to the university's office of marketing, where the statement originated, was not immediately returned.
