The Speedy Schirmies might wish they'd put more money in Nextel Communications.
No matter, though - their heavy bet on Cisco Systems still paid off for the Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy students this week as the technology stock surged 13 percent in five days and 54 percent from when the game started on Oct. 7.
Such substantial gains throughout the Schirmies' tech-heavy portfolio pushed the team into first place this week, and helped keep their school's portfolio average tops among Greater Cincinnati game players.
Not all of their picks were gainers, however. The team lost more than $5,500 in Lockheed Martin, Honda and Kroger.
But their winners are winning big since early October. Among them: Oracle, up 34 percent; Intel, up 36 percent; and Nextel, up 70 percent.
