- Brad Banks, Iowa, threw for two TDs and ran for two more as No. 6 Iowa clinched at least a share of the Big Ten title with a 45-21 victory over Minnesota.

- Michael Turner, Northern Illinois, ran for 225 yards and tied a Mid-American Conference record with five TDs as the Huskies remained unbeaten in the conference with a 49-21 win over Eastern Michigan.

- Jason Johnson and Bobby Wade, Arizona, Wade passed for a school-record 492 yards and threw four TD passes as the Wildcats snapped a six-game losing streak with a 52-41 victory over California. Wade caught 11 of Johnson's passes for a career-high 222 yards receiving.

UNDEFEATED WATCH

No. 2 Ohio State improved to 12-0 for the first time in school history with a 23-16 win over Illinois in OT. Maurice Hall ran for a TD in the extra period to give the Buckeyes the win. Ohio State plays rival Michigan, next week, needing a victory to play in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 3 for its first national crown since 1968. ... No. 1 Miami was idle this weekend and plays No. 18 Pittsburgh on Thursday.

DEFEATED WATCH

Army, the only winless team in Division I-A entering Saturday's games, beat Tulane 14-10. Reggie Nevels threw for a TD and ran for another to lead the Black Knights. Army has now beaten Tulane three times in the last three years. ... Brown, 0-8 at the start of the day, defeated Dartmouth 21-18. Kyle Slager completed 32 of 42 passes for 270 yards and a TD to go along with a rushing score to lead the Bears.

PRIDE OF THE LIONS

Penn State's Larry Johnson ran for 327 yards and a career-high four TDs in the Nittany Lions' 58-25 win at Indiana. Johnson broke his own single-game school rushing record for the third time this season and broke Penn State's 31-year-old single-season record midway through the second quarter. Lydell Mitchell set the previous mark of 1,567 yards in 1971. Johnson finished the game with 1,736 yards. On top of that, Johnson set a Memorial Stadium record for yards rushing by an opponent, breaking a 17-year-old mark set by Michigan State's Lorenzo White. Johnson scored on runs of 69, 43, 1 and 41 yards and personally outgained Indiana 327-275.

WILDCAT RETURNS

Kentucky's Derek Abney set an NCAA record with his sixth kick return for a TD this season, a 95-yard runback of a kickoff against Vanderbilt. Abney has returned two kickoffs and - tying an NCAA record - four punts for scores. Abney also set two Southeastern Conference records with Saturday's return: most kick returns for a TD in a season and a career (seven).

KING OF THE PASSERS

Kliff Kingsbury knocked No. 4 Texas out of the national title chase by completing 38 of 60 passes for 473 yards and six TDs to lead Texas Tech to a 42-38 upset. After his big day, Kingsbury moved up to the No. 4 passer in Division I history with 11,831 yards, passing Todd Santos of San Diego State.

RUNNING WILD

Quarterback Ell Roberson ran for 228 yards and three TDs as No. 11 Kansas State earned its most lopsided victory ever against Nebraska, 49-13. Roberson's 91-yard first-quarter scramble was the second-longest run against Nebraska, topped only by a 99-yard run by Kansas' Gale Sayers in 1963. It was the longest Kansas State run since Gerald Hackney's 96-yarder against the Jayhawks in 1948.

CORN HUSKED

Following a 49-13 loss to No. 11 Kansas State, Nebraska (7-5, 3-4 Big 12) is assured of its first non-winning conference record since its 3-4 Big Eight mark in 1968. The Huskers' five regular-season losses already are the most since the 1961 team went 3-6-1, and Saturday's loss dropped their road record against ranked teams to 1-7 under coach Frank Solich.

SMART RECORD

Ian Smart ran for four TDs to set the NCAA all-division career record with 94 as C.W. Post defeated Pace 35-16. Smart, who gained 176 yards on 23 carries for the Division II Pioneers, bettered the previous record of 92 touchdowns, set by R.J. Bowers of Division III Grove City (Pa.) from 1997-2000. Smart has 6,508 yards rushing, fourth-best all-time in Division II and seventh-best in all NCAA competition. With a 40-yard TD run in the third quarter, he also broke the all-division scoring record with 564 points, two more than Bowers.

UNION WORKERS

Mount Union won its 38th consecutive game and clinched its 11th consecutive Ohio Conference title with a 62-0 rout of Wilmington. The Purple Raiders now prepare for the NCAA Division III playoffs. They have won five of the last six national championships. The Purple Raiders have won their last 76 OAC games and 84 regular-season games, and they have lost just one of their last 92 games.

JUCO JUGGERNAUT

Junior college quarterback Geary Davenport, of the College of Marin in Kentfield, Calif., passed for 781 yards and nine TDs, but his team lost 72-69 to Solano Community College. Davenport completed 44 of 64 passes.

SEVEN SPOT

Bruce Eugene accounted for 531 yards and seven TDs to lead Grambling to a 64-36 victory over Morris Brown in a game that produced more than 1,100 yards of offense. Eugene completed 21 of 41 passes for 465 yards and five scores and added 66 yards rushing and two TDs on eight carries. Grambling punted only once in the game.

FLYING HUSKY

Cody Pickett threw for 316 yards and four TDs and set the Pac-10 record for single-season passing yardage in Washington's 42-14 victory over No. 23 Oregon. Pickett increased his total to 3,818 yards to surpass Ryan Leaf, who threw for 3,637 yards for Washington State in 1997.

EAGER BEAVERS

Steven Jackson ran for 230 yards and a TD as Oregon State rallied for a 31-21 victory over Stanford. Kirk Yliniemi was 3-for-3 on field goals, setting an Oregon State record with 12 consecutive made field goals.

HAT TRICK

Chaz Williams, Kevin Davis and Mark Myers each scored on runs of more than 50 yards as Georgia Southern beat Jacksonville State 41-3. Williams scored on runs of 71 and 1 yards, Davis scampered 68 yards for his score and Myers, who had 141 yards on five carries, scored on a 53-yarder for the Eagles, ranked No. 4 in Division I-AA.

PACKING THE HOUSE

An NCAA-record 773,763 fans came to Michigan Stadium for seven games this season, which surpassed the mark set during the Wolverines' national championship season in 1997. Twelfth-ranked Michigan defeated Wisconsin 21-14.

ANCHORED

Connecticut outgained Navy, 509 yards to 82 yards, and had 28 first downs to Navy's three in a 38-0 romp. The Huskies scored on five of their first six possessions. Navy was without its starting quarterback and fullback. The Midshipmen were shut out for the first time since Sept. 30, 2000, against Texas Christian.

125 AND COUNTING

Ron Benigno caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Mroz with 4:42 left in the game to lift Yale to a soggy 7-3 win over Princeton in the 125th meeting of the Ivy League teams. The Bulldogs lead the series 67-41-10. The series is the second longest in the nation behind the Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry.

RUNNING CARDINAL

Ball State running back Marcus Merriweather finished with 129 yards rushing on 29 carries for his school-record eighth 100-yard rushing game this season, as the Cardinals beat Central Michigan 38-21. He now has 19 career 100-yard games, which also is a school record.

OUT WITH A BANG

Mackenize Hoambrecker kicked a school-record 59-yard field goal with 37 seconds left in his final game to give Northern Iowa a 25-24 victory over Southwest Missouri State. It was Hoambrecker's fourth field goal of the game.

SNAPPED

Eastern Washington handed Montana its first loss in more than a year, 30-21. Montana the nation's top Division I-AA team, had won 24 straight games since a Sept. 8, 2001, loss to Hawaii. The Grizzlies came into the game riding a 20-0 record in Big Sky Conference games.

SHARP PLAY

Tanardo Sharps carried a Big East Conference record 48 times for 215 yards and set up the game-winning FG as Temple rallied to defeat Rutgers 20-17. Sharps also scored on a 4-yard run. Sharps' 48 carries broke Temple's single-game record of 44 set by Paul Palmer in 1986 and the conference mark of 41 set by Amos Zereoue of West Virginia in 1997.

SOFT ORANGES

Boston College became the sixth team this season to amass more than 500 yards in total offense against Syracuse, as the Eagles beat the Orangemen 41-20. Boston College rushed for 227 yards and passed for 284 while handing Syracuse its seventh loss of the season.

STRONG IN DEFEAT

Nevada's Nate Burleson, the nation's leader in receptions, had 14 catches for 207 yards, giving him 131 receptions for 1,558 yards this season. His efforts were not enough as Fresno State defeated Nevada 38-30. Nevada plays at Boise State next week, giving Burleson a chance to break the Division I-A record of 142 catches, set by Houston's Manny Hazard in 1989.

RUNNING HILLS

Jon Frazier gained 179 of Western Kentucky's 390 rushing yards and scored two TDs as the Hilltoppers routed Southern Illinois 48-16.

GOVERNING POWER

Jay Bailey ran 27 times for 118 yards and two TDs to lead Austin Peay to a 28-24 win over Valparaiso. The win ensured the Governors (7-5) their first winning season since 1984. Bailey, one of the top rushers in Division I-AA, scored his 32nd career TD in the game, setting a new school record. Bailey's career rushing total of 2,992 yards also broke a school record.

SPECIAL TROPHIES

In addition to clinching at least a share of the Big Ten title, No. 6 Iowa also won the Floyd of Rosedale trophy by beating Minnesota 45-21. The two schools have played for the bronze statue of a pig every year since 1935. ... Kings Point (the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy) defeated the U.S. Coast Guard Academy 31-6 to claim the Secretary's Cup. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta was on hand to present the trophy.

GOODBYE GRIFFINS

Scott Bard threw three TD passes as Stony Brook won 42-7 Saturday against Canisius, which played its final game after announcing last month that it's dropping football from its athletic program. Stony Brook finished 8-2, the most successful season in school history.

SPEAKING

"No, you could ask me that 100 times and I'd say the same thing. Those guys were the great ones, they paved the way for me." - Penn State RB Larry Johnson, who remained humble when asked whether he should be regarded as one of the best backs in school history. Johnson ran for 327 yards, a career-high four TDs and shattered the 31-year-old Penn State single-season rushing record as he led the 16th-ranked Nittany Lions to a 58-25 victory at Indiana.

---

"We lost our best receiver, then he comes out and makes one of the best catches in Georgia history." - Georgia QB David Greene, on the fourth-down catch teammate Michael Johsnon made with 1:25 left to give the seventh-ranked Bulldogs a 24-21 win over No. 24 Auburn. Johnson, subbing for an injured Terrence Edwards, outjumped an Auburn defender to catch Greene's lofted pass in the corner of the end zone on 4th-and-15. The win gave Georgia its first SEC East division title.
