Fort Thomas residents are raising money to create and maintain three gateways to the Campbell County city.
The Green Team, as the group is called, is seeking private donations to plant trees, shrubs and flowers along Memorial Parkway, Grand Avenue and U.S. 27 near Woodfill School.
So far, $25,000 has been raised. A total of $430,000 is needed.
At Grand and Highland avenues, the plan calls for replacing an abandoned gas station with green space similar to the Inverness Gateway Park at Memorial and Fort Thomas Avenue. The city is working with the Green Team to make the transformations happen, but no tax dollars will be spent on the projects.
The lackluster entranceways stand in contrast to nicely landscaped homes and streets within Fort Thomas, Green Team Treasurer Pat Klocke says.
"These are the entrances to the city. It's a nice city, but it needs a little help," he says.
The Green Team consists of 23 members and operates under the Greater Cincinnati Foundation umbrella. Donations are tax-deductible.
For information on joining or donating to the Green Team, call (859) 392-8312. Donations can be made to the Fort Thomas Green Team Fund, care of Pat Klocke, 101 Bivouac Point, Fort Thomas, KY 41075.
