Some Good News
Holiday drives to wrap up
Most schools are wrapping up their end-of-year community service projects this month and next, along with holiday programs.
At the Primrose School of Symmes Township, preschoolers and kindergarten pupils are conducting their annual Thanksgiving food drive this month to benefit the FreeStore/FoodBank.
Vanessa Abbott, operations manager at the school, said the students do chores to earn money to buy food items.
"This gets away from the children going home asking for can food items," Ms Abbott said. "After they perform chores to earn money, they bring it to school and it is counted. We discuss what goes into a nutritional meal. This way they learn about food groups and a balanced meal."
She said the students then go together to the market, locate and purchase the kinds of products they have decided on. The students present the items to a charity.
"Next month we will do a Toys for Tots drive," Ms. Abbott said
Students at Fairfax School, 4999 Kingsley Drive, Madisonville, will have breakfast with Santa Claus from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 7.
The events will include a continental breakfast and a cakewalk.
Entertainment will be provided by Singing Fingers, a group of Fairfax students and alumni who perform sign language to music.
Holiday crafts made by students and families will be for sale. Toys adapted for children with mental retardation and developmental disabilities will be on display.
Tickets for the events are $2 in advance and $2:50 the day of the event.
Tickets may be purchased by contacting Sue Becker at 271-2313 , extension 167, or Julie Reynolds, 271-2313, extension 156. Both are instructors at the school. The public is invited.
The Roger Bacon High School annual Reunion Tea is set for 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the school auditorium, 4320 Vine St., St. Bernard.
The annual tea is in honor of Our Lady of the Angels High School, Roger Bacon's sister school. The two schools merged in 1984.
The Spartan Express Choir will provide entertainment. The event is open to all graduates of Our Lady of Angels. For more information, call 641-1313.
The Student Council at the Rapid Run Middle School, 6345 Rapid Run Road, Delhi Township, will deliver food the students collected to the Anderson Ferry Food Pantry, beginning at 2:25 p.m. Monday.
EDS employees have raised more than $3,000 for the library at the SEM Haven Health & Residential Care Center, 225 Cleveland Ave., Milford.
The employees were led by Mary Anne Will, Don Nicolaus and Tom Rocklin.
They purchased six oak shelves, hundreds of new books, tapes, CDs and DVDs, and furniture for the library.
