Sorenstam atop LPGA's finale
Seeking 11th win
The Associated Press
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Annika Sorenstam is halfway home to her 11th victory of the LPGA Tour season, and some players believe her dominance isn't getting enough attention.
"There's a major issue that's been on the plate, and that's Augusta," Lorie Kane said Friday at the season-ending ADT Championship. "That's really unfortunate."
The controversy over the all-male membership at Augusta National has been in the news every day. Kane's concern is that when people think about women in golf, Martha Burk of the National Council of Women's Organization is the first who comes to mind.
"How many realize that Annika has knocked our sport on its butt?" Kane said.
Despite a three-putt bogey from 8 feet, and three missed birdie chances from inside 6 feet, Sorenstam had a 2-under 70 at Trump International for a one-stroke lead after two rounds.
If she wins her 11th title, it would be the most on Tour since 1964. Sorenstam also has won tournaments in Australia and Sweden.
DUNLOP PHOENIX OPEN: After settling for a par 71 in the opening round, Tiger Woods rallied with a 3-under 68 in the second round in Miyazaki, Japan, to trail leader Kaname Yokoo by eight.
Yokoo had six birdies in a bogey-free 65 that left him at 11-under - four strokes ahead of Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Zaw Moe.
BMW ASIAN OPEN: John Daly honored his mother Lou's wishes by playing in Ta Shee, Taiwan, after her death in the United States.
Daly shot a 2-over 74 for an even-par 144 total, leaving the American star 12 strokes behind leader Maarten Lafeber.
SHARK SHOOTOUT: John Huston and Jeff Maggert fired an 8-under 64 in alternate shot to take the first-round lead in Naples, Fla.
CHAMPIONS Q-SCHOOL: Des Smyth made an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win medalist honors in Brooksville, Fla., and lead a group of eight seniors who qualified for playing privileges on the over-50 circuit in 2003.
